Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality Tropical Rainforest Discovery Platform

For this project we were divided in several groups and were about to work with Bamboo and supporting materials to understand the nature and characteristics of this material and how it is to be used in our design. We would explore construction details, joinery, and structural quality and how the selected materials work together.

Step 1: Study on Material and Structure

First thing to do was to learn the materials and structure. We were supposed to understand its characteristics. We were provided with several briefings on how to cut bamboo properly, how to use rope to tie bamboos together and so on.

Step 2: Study on Anthropometrics and Ergonomics

Here we had to explore human form and action to understand how would a human fit in the structure and if they would be able to do different actions there.

We were about to:

Measure and record measurement of our body in diagram
Identify one action/activity to be performed in the shading structure

Step 3: Design Intention

We were supposed to identify our key element and principle for the Tattoo Stamps and model itself

Step 4: Idea Exploration and Test Model, Planning and Construction Materials

At this step we were making lots of sketches and test models. By the end of the step we identified our final design and structure

Step 5: Building Bamboo Structure

At this stage we started working with actual bamboo building our structure and changing the design in process since not all the ideas turned out to be done the way they were supposed to be initially. All the members were included in the building process. The whole way was very difficult but very interesting and satisfying at the finish of the constructing the structure

Step 6: Drawing and Final Model Assembly

At this point we had to fill our presentation boards with all the drawings such as ergonomics, tectonic ideas, elevations, sections, plans and so on. By this we would prepare for our final presentation

Step 7: Presentation

Here we are at the final point of the project, presenting our final model and all the drawings done. We were very happy to finish these 2 difficult weeks and finally show what we were working on all this time.
