BCM Projects

The purpose of this module is to educate students on the fundamentals of building design and the construction materials utilised for small to medium-sized structures. It concentrates on helping the reader grasp the fundamentals of the building components, such as the substructure, the superstructure, and common building materials like concrete, masonry, wood, metal, and glass.

Project 1

Famous Architect’s building Materials Application: Architectural and Structural (Individual)

I had to decide on a "interesting" building made by one of the listed architects. From here, based on the selected building, I had to determine five architectural construction materials and two structural building materials. I had to research the concepts and ideas that guided the choice of the building's materials. I also had to explain how one of the materials had been installed on the chosen structure.

Self-Reflection

For this Project, I chose Jacques Herzog as an architect and his building in Hamburg called Elbphilharmonie. I found this assignment very interesting and calling for curiosity since there is lots of stuff you have to explore about the building. It makes you go deeper looking for information and different sources you can find it in. All in all, I consider this project very educative and valuable for education process.

Project 2

Construction Detailing of Building Elements

Drawings would be used in this project to illustrate our knowledge and comprehension of building construction. The attention on building component detailing would be increased. The development of awareness and understanding of the close connections between design and technical knowledge is one of the objectives of this assignment. Any design project's success depends on the designer's capacity to solve a variety of complicated difficulties that arise during the design process, such as the selection of materials, integration of structure, and proper construction methods. Therefore, this task should be able to inform us of the significance of comprehending building design and technical aspects of construction.

Self-Reflection

During this project, I was assigned to make 3 drawings of the building we chose: Roof floor plan, rare elevation and front elevation. I found this assessment very educating since we had to analyse building construction and materials used, label it and look for more information on details on our own.
