TAA Projects
Through a systematic treatment of architectural design and construction, building science and technology, garden design, and city planning, the subject examines the history of South, Southeast, and East Asian architecture as a whole. These three key themes are sustainability, tradition, and modernity & globalization. These themes would serve as a framework for the weekly lectures and projects, which will move from the development of a fundamental theoretical framework to the analysis of particular examples. Through research posters and oral presentations, we would increase our understanding of Asian architecture and urbanism and interpret Asian architectural language.
Project 1
Contextual Study Sketch Journal of a Traditional Street
Through the visible elements of architecture and environment, as well as the elusive socio-cultural characteristics, this research presents methods for deciphering the significant "lexicons" of traditional streets. Students are able to comprehend the particular conditions that create the distinct place identity and sociocultural significance of the traditional streets. Both a written report and a sketch diary are used to record observations.
Self-Reflection
I found this Project 1 as a very fascinating and valuable expereince of exploring different sites of one street, gaining lots of valuable knowledge about its history and meaning. I believe that I did my best while doing the Assignment trying to put as much of my effort as I could, but I also believe that I could do better if I paid more attention to some details while exploring the street.
Project 2
Poster and Seminar-Contemporary Issues in Asian Architecture
We must undertake comprehensive analyses of the key problems identified during their site visit. Through weekly facilitated group discussions overseen by our tutors, an evaluative framework is established within the designated scope using the problem-based learning approach. The results of the learning process are given as a proposal of viable solutions in the form of a research poster and a video presentation.
Self-Reflection
While working on this project I learned a lot about buildings' heritage and the key problems they live with throughout their history. I also learned more about working in a group and the right distribution of responsibilities as well as the importance of the right communication between group members.
