Space and Sensory: Self - Exploration through Spaces
In project 3, I would look back my shading structure and further develop it to a Sensory Space (20m3 , +- 3 m3 ), with to anticipate and accommodate users’ needs and emotions. Through this project I was supposed to show my emotions I got from the experience I got as a first year student
Step 1: Interpret and Represent My Shading Structure (Project 2)
Here you can see some sketches and notes I did for this step:
As the first thing to do I was supposed to look back into the model we made for Project 2 and develop it to create spaces. I also was supposed to define the emotions I wanted to show through my Project 3 structure.
Step 2: Study on Material and Structure
For this Project we were supposed to use 2 or 3 materials from the next list:
-
Concrete
-
Timber
-
Steel
-
Glass
After coming with some ideas for my design, I decided to use concrete and glass as materials for my structure since it would be the best choice to show the emotions I wanted to put in the idea of my model and from practical side as well.
Step 3: Further Study on Anthropometrics and Ergonomics
Here I had to come with some actions a human could do while going through the structure. I came with sitting, crawling, standing and leaning as the key actions they could do there:
Step 4: Design Intention
This step is where I had to define the main emotions I wanted to put in my design. The emotions had to be based on my experience I got as a first year student. So I came with several ones:
-
Anxiety, confusion and stress for the first part
-
Relieve, freedom and relax for the second one
Step 5: Idea Exploration and Test Model
To understand how I should make my final model firstly I had to make a Test Model to explore how materials should be used and how to arrange everything in the given volume. So firstly I made 1:20 scaled Test models (x2)
Step 6: Orthographic Drawings and Tattoo Stamps
For this projects I was supposed to come with 4 Tattoo stamps:
-
1 diagram to depict the transition of intention and conception of your design from your tectonic structure (Project 2)
-
1 diagram to capture the user’s response through the understanding of anthropometry and ergonomics
-
2 diagrams to extract and highlight the main idea/themes from the final design
Another part of this step was to draw:
-
Exploded axonometric as key drawings to show structure and joinery details
-
Floor plan, section, and elevation of my design
Here they are:
Exploded Axonometry
Section
Floor Plan
Elevation
Step 7: Final Model Assembly
This is a final part where I come with the final design and the final model, after which I have to prepare my presentation boards where I arrange all the drawings and then present it
Here are the results:
